Writing and performing your own songs takes guts.   And persistence and focus.  And a willingness to play, to make mistakes, struggle and goof around until you get it right.  Makers!

But music making isn’t just for adults any more.   Amazing, rocking bands with groove and talent – with musicians no older than 8, 10, 13 years old – are sprouting up and blowing audiences away all over the East Bay.

It’s no wonder, really, with such great East Bay resources such as Bay Area Girls Rock CampYouth Movement Records, Youth Radio, and Bandworks — not to mention schools like Crowden School and the Oakland School of the Arts (OSA).  All of these organizations teach and nurture youth to author and perform music.

To honor this major kid maker action, East Bay Mini Maker Faire is proud to announce a Call for KIDS WHO ROCK (or beat or rap or pluck or tap or hum or harmonize).  Bands or performers that write and perform (at lease some of) their own music should apply now to make the cut for the Kids Who Rock stage.

We can’t wait to showcase our East Bay kid talent!  Bands who’ve already submitted applications include Poison Apple Pie (featuring Park Day School eighth grader Torrie Hart), and The She’s, a San Francisco-based teen band that rocked out the San Mateo Maker Faire last year.

Help us the word about the Call for Kids Who Rock:  applications (with links to samples of your music and some info on who you are) are due by September 15th.

And keep checking ebmakerfaire.com for more info on the stage, performers, and East Bay Mini Maker Faire sponsors.  We plan to rock you.

p.s.  Yes, that means Call for any kind of Maker has been extended through September 15th…   Read all about it on our Call for Makers page.
